At the end of Year 6, children across England take part in the national Key Stage 2 Standard Assessment Tests (SATs). These assessments are designed to check how well pupils have learned the key skills in Reading, Writing, Maths, and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) during their time in primary school.
SATs provide a snapshot of each child’s progress and help secondary schools understand pupils’ strengths and areas for development as they move into Year 7. The tests are set and marked externally, ensuring that results are consistent across the country.
The Expected Standard indicates that a child has met the nationally expected level by the end of primary school. Greater Depth refers to pupils who show a higher level of confidence and independence in applying their knowledge
