What we're proud of...

Colton Primary School PTA

CPS_PTAParent Teachers Association

Welcome to our school. We are very fortunate at Colton Primary to have a PTA that is such an integral part of the school. The PTA has been responsible for raising thousands of pounds year on year, which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and the facilities in school in general.

All parents and members of the school community can get involved if they wish, even if they only have a small amount of time available. All parents are automatically members of Colton Primary School PTA when they join the school.

Role Of The Committee

The PTA Committee consists of 6 Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-Secretary and Minutes Secretary). We also have 7 other Committee members to make up the full Committee. The Committee meets on a regular basis usually at least once per half term as necessary to organise fundraising events.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Our Annual General Meeting is held at the beginning of the autumn term. This is an opportunity for all parents to come along and hear in more detail about events run, funds raised and how the money has been spent. It is also the occasion when we elect our new committee and class representatives, and agree dates for our main fundraising events for the forthcoming school year.

How We Raise Money

As in most schools, the majority of funds are raised through the events that we run. Some of our most popular events are the fairs, children’s discos and dress down days. We also have other events such as bags to school collections, families night, ladies night, coffee mornings, a 100 Club and produce a School Calendar. The PTA places the orders for School Uniform each term and all discounts received on sales contribute to PTA funds. Not all our events are run as fundraisers, we have a Shoebox collection in November giving the children the opportunity to give to others less fortunate than themselves at Christmas.

How We Spend The Money We Raise

It is at PTA Committee Meetings that the decisions on how to spend the money are taken. Usually the Head Teacher will have a “shopping list” of items that the school would like to purchase. Often this will be as a result of the children asking for something for example new playground equipment and markings. At other times it will be for resources to improve a particular area of the curriculum or school environment. In the main the PTA funds are for the “extras” not provided by the school budget, that make our children’s learning experiences so much more fulfilling and exciting. The money we raise is invested rapidly to enhance you child’s learning experience. That way you can be sure that in supporting our school, your and everybody’s child will feel the benefit.

We always endeavour to spend our funds in ways that will benefit all our children across all areas of the school and curriculum. In recent years we have raised funds to improve the playground and library.

How We Get Information To You

There are regular letters giving forthcoming dates for events also updates and requests for help when we are planning large events. PTA Newsletters inform you of how much money we raised at events and if we can, what the money will be spent on.

How Can You Get Involved

There are lots of ways you can help and support you child through the PTA.

Offering to help before events, or at other times during the year is so valuable, it really is a case of ” many hand make light work”. It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, there are always little jobs that can be done if you have half an hour to spare e.g. wrapping gifts, preparing raffle tickets etc.

  •  You can of course, if you feel able, volunteer to be a class representative or committee member.
  •  You can attend the AGM and give us your ideas for fundraising events – this is also the time to ask questions or voice your opinion.
  •  You can help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use.

Finally, we are always grateful to receive any offers of help!

In conclusion, the PTA is an essential part of our school. There is always something fun going on! All parents and carers are members and everyone’s contribution is valued. Financial support enables us to create a richer learning environment for our children. Not everyone needs a special talent, just a willingness to try a new skill and help.
