Outstanding Ofsted Rating for Colton Primary School

"A school where anything is possible."
On 21st and 22nd May 2024, Ofsted inspectors visited Colton Primary School in Leeds and found it to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas.
Describing Colton Primary as ‘a school where anything is possible’, inspectors commended its leaders, staff, trustees, and local governors, stating that, “Leaders have ensured that every staff member shares a commitment to help every pupil realise their full potential.”
The report says that pupils “achieve exceptionally well, both academically and in their personal development” and “develop deep and rich knowledge across the curriculum.” Examples of how this is achieved are highlighted in the report which can be read here.
Inspectors were particularly impressed with the ‘Colton Code’ which runs through the school, finding that “The conduct and behaviour of pupils are exemplary”, pupils “learn how to respect and care for each other” and “value charity and the spirit of generosity”, noting one pupil who explained to inspectors that this is because “sometimes, everyone needs a helping hand”.
The Ofsted report also praises Colton Primary School’s ‘Curriculum for Life’, saying that it “ensures pupils build character and develop a deep understanding of difference.” It also mentions the many opportunities offered that “helps to ensure pupils develop a wide range of talents and interests.”
Our Headteacher at Colton Primary School, Mrs Caroline Johnson commented, “We are absolutely thrilled with this report and our Outstanding result. It reflects the hard work and dedication of all the staff who work tirelessly to provide our wonderful children with exciting, innovative learning opportunities.”
Ofsted found that “All pupils are proud to be part of this superb school” and “Staff are incredibly proud to work at this school”.
Colton Primary School is part of Red Kite Learning Trust, a multi academy of 14 schools across North and West Yorkshire. In reference to Red Kite Learning Trust, Ofsted reports, “The trust and leaders have been instrumental in ensuring staff workload is well managed and this has had a very positive impact on staff well-being.”
