Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

A big warm welcome to Year 2 with me Miss Theaker. In our class we love to learn and we do this in exciting and interesting ways. People in our class who help us are Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Maddison and Miss Sissons.

In Year 2 the children have come up with their own ethos which is: In Year 2 we are FANTASTIC! We welcome people when they are new and make them feel relaxed and happy. We work together and try our best even if things are tricky. Our classroom is tidy, we are safe and we are proud to be part of Year 2.

Our communication platform is called Class Dojo, this is where photographs of children's learning and achievements in school are posted and shared to parents and where parents can share this from home to school also. Children are familiar with this app and are able to find out information, news and updates and share what they have learnt in class each day.
In class children can collect 'Dojos' this is when they have done some fantastic learning, followed the rules well or gone above and beyond in any way. Children have selected a number of 'rewards' when they reach certain amounts of points this is something they work towards.

In Year 2 we have regular homework:
On Thursdays we get a new reading book. We return these books the following Tuesday to be changed. We encourage parents to write a brief note on how their children are doing and children can also rate the book and give their opinion. We follow the VIPERS questions which help to build our reading skills in vocabulary, inference, predicting, explaining and sequencing and parents are encouraged to ask questions to check comprehension also.
On Fridays we have spellings to learn, these are set on Spelling Shed and children can log on and practise on the app through the week, these spellings are either phonics based or follow the Year 2 spelling patterns. These spellings are also practised in class throughout the week and previous spelling patterns are re visited. These spellings are then tested on the following Friday.
On Fridays we also have Mathletics and TT Rockstars set and can log on at home or in school to complete these activities.

In Year 2 children begin to use the cursive style of handwriting and we use the Letterjoin app to support this. Once children have grasped this we then move on to joining our letters. This is something children really enjoy. We try really hard in Year 2 to do our best in every lesson and focus on trying hard to keep our presentation neat.

We love to discuss, explore and investigate and look forward to coming to school each day!

See you all Soon.
